Maui Snorkeling Vacation 2013
After several years of talking about it I finally went on a snorkeling vacation. Our hotel was on the beach at Kaanapali, so we managed 2-3 swims each day.
About a minute after we hit the water the first morning we spotted a Honu. This guy was a commuter, he had places to go, so we swam with him for a while.
Then we said goodbye to the commuter Honu and headed back in toward the reef.
These are Cauliflower Coral, we called them Brain Coral.
Went about 20 feet down to get this shot, that was as close as I wanted to get to a Lionfish.
On my way up I spotted this guy who dove down about 25 feet and hung out for a while to get some photos. We saw several good divers on this trip.
A Coronet Fish in the shallows.
When we came out of the water after a snorkel we spotted this crowd around a Honu close to shore.
We put our gear back on and hung out with him for a while.
Then it was time to head to our resort for a hot tub.
After a late start the first couple days we added a dawn patrol snorkel. The first was at our resort, but the second was at Honolua Bay.
We had to walk through a rainforest jungle to get there.
This is a protected bay so there were lots of fish who are not skittery around humans.
A Moorish Idol hides under an overhang.
Diving on a Honu back at our reef.
A Moorish Idol back at our reef.
A school of Black Triggerfish off our reef.
Diving deep again.
In the shallows.
Another school of BlackTriggerfish.
The sand on our beach was deeply scalloped near shore.
On our last visit to Honolua Bay we stumbled in to several schools of fish feeding together.
Mr. Stumpy again, we saw him two days in a row.
In the shallows at Honolua Bay.
Spotted what looked like a Cuttlefish, but is most likely a Hawaiian Bobtail Squid as we were getting out at Honolua Bay.
a Needle Fish back at our our reef.
We swam the mile to Black Rock and spotted these White Spotted Eagle Rays.
Walking back for a hot tub after our last snorkel. Looks like I will be doing this again.
